I will be displaying my work at local artisan coffee shop Alto for the month of July. Located in downtown Shinbudong, Cheonan, S. Korea, Alto is a quaint and art friendly coffee shop within walking distance of the Shinsaegae Department store and Bus Terminal. (See Map) Open and light filled the minimalist décor is adorned with dozens of tiny knick-knacks, mostly Ghibli related, from the owner’s extensive time spent in Japan. In fact on one desk there is a tiny portable TV that plays Howl’s Moving Castle on loop. It has a covered outdoor patio as well, so come out and enjoy some coffee and art work at a wonderful space this summer!
The piece is entitled “De-Saturation” and is comprised of 30 photos that are tied together with blacks and whites and blues, as well as shadows and silhouettes. The photos are stripped of stimuli, forcing you to focus on the form; and as the hectic pace of life drains away so does the color. You can read my Artist Statement about the series HERE. All photos are available to purchase for W15,000 ($15)
Here are a few select shots that will be displayed:
